Alexandre Sazonov is a Russian born artist

His interest in the miniature
Format visible in his matchbook
drawings began at an early age.
Fascinated by the intimate quality of hidden
places, he secretly drew small portraits of
childhood heroes on the backsides of house
hold radios, family cupboards, and balcony
handrails.  This obscure form of quiet graffiti
was to become a lifelong obsession...
He later studied fine art at the prestigious
Syzran Art School and the Penza College of Art,
both located in Central Russia along the Volga
river.  Relocating to the United States in 1992,
he found himself in a smoke-filled Manhattan bistro drawing on
what was to become his first matchbook masterpiece.
Since that time, he has amassed a collection of over 1500 matchbook drawings.  these little gems are now available to the public in print
form at affordable prices.
